    D-PENICILLAMINE

    PENICILLAMINE (CUPRIMINE)

    BOXED WARNING:
    Physicians planning to use penicillamine should thoroughly familiarize themselves with its toxicity,
    special dosage considerations, and therapeutic benefits. Penicillamine should never be used casually.
    Each patient should remain constantly under the close supervision of the physician. Patients should be
    warned to report promptly any symptoms suggesting toxicity.

    BEFORE USING THIS MEDICINE: Tell your doctor: TOP
    If you are PREGNANT.
    HOW MEDICINE IS ADMINISTERED? TOP
    Use this medicine exactly as directed on the label, unless instructed differently by your doctor
    * Take this medicine on an EMPTY stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after the ingestion of food.
    * DO NOT TAKE WITH ANTACIDS; if antacids are required, delay administration by two hours.
    WARNINGS/PRECAUTIONS: TOP
    * STOP TAKING MEDICINE & GET EMERGENCY HELP IMMEDIATELY IF A HYPERSENSITIVITY OR ANAPHYLACTIC REACTION occurs: (see symptoms below):-
    * shortness of breath, fast or irregular breathing, fever, joint pain, fast pulse, lightheadedness or fainting, swelling of face, hives, & itching.
    * This medicine is CONTRAINDICATED for use during pregnancy. CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY IF PREGNANT or intend to become pregnant.
    * It is important that your doctor monitors your BLOOD CELL COUNTS at regular intervals.
    Stop taking this medicine and notify your doctor AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience:
    Skin rash; Fever; Cough; Chills; Sore throat.
    Other Common Side Effects: TOP
    Itching; Blunting of the sense of taste.; Joint pain; Abnormal blood cell count; Swelling; Liver inflammation; Urine discoloration; Unusual tiredness or weakness; Decreased appetite; Yellowing of eyes or skin; Lupus-like syndrome; Memory difficulty; Nausea; Inflammation of the pancreas; Ringing in ears; Vomiting; Breathing difficulty; Anemia; Weight gain.
    Other Common Side Effects:
    If symptoms are mild but do not go away or are bothersome, check with your doctor. IF ANY OF THE ABOVE SIDE EFFECTS IS SEVERE, CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY.
    Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
    Taking this medication may cause the following mineral depletion: TOP
    COPPER ORAL; MAGNESIUM; VITAMIN B6 ORAL (PYRIDOXINE); ZINC; .
