    RAMIPRIL ORAL (ALTACE)

    BOXED WARNING:
    FETAL TOXICITY
    * Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are pregnant.
    * This medication may cause injury and even death to the unborn baby. When pregnancy is detected, stop using this medication as soon as possible.
    * Use of this medicaiton during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy reduces fetal renal function and increases fetal and neonatal death.
    * Use an effective form of birth control.
    * Talk to your doctor about other ways to lower your blood pressure if you plan to become pregnant.

    BEFORE USING THIS MEDICINE: Tell your doctor: TOP
    If you are PREGNANT.
    Tell your doctor if you are having any of the following conditions: TOP
    KIDNEY DISEASE; LIVER PROBLEMS.
    * Inform your Doctor or Pharmacist if you are allergic to any prescription or non-prescription medicine; taking other medicines or have other medical problems; pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
    * Check with your Doctor, Pharmacists, or Nurse if information in this leaflet causes you special concern or if you want additional information about your medicine and its use.
    HOW MEDICINE IS ADMINISTERED? TOP
    Use this medicine exactly as directed on the label, unless instructed differently by your doctor
    * Check your blood pressure regularly. Inform your doctor if blood pressure is not controlled.
    * Follow prescribed/recommended diet and exercise program.
    * If you have problem swallowing, capsules can be opened and the granules inside can be sprinkled on applesauce and swallowed (not chewed) immediately.
    * This medicine can be taken with or without food, REGARDLESS of meal times. If stomach upset occurs, take with food.
    * Use this medicine for the full prescribed treatment period.
    WARNINGS/PRECAUTIONS: TOP
    * STOP TAKING MEDICINE & GET EMERGENCY HELP IMMEDIATELY IF A HYPERSENSITIVITY OR ANAPHYLACTIC REACTION occurs: (see symptoms below):-
    * Notify doctor if you are pregnant, if pregnancy is suspected, or if you intend to become pregnant.
    * This medicine SHOULD NOT BE USED during pregnancy UNLESS the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
    * shortness of breath, fast or irregular breathing, fever, joint pain, fast pulse, lightheadedness or fainting, swelling of face, hives, & itching.
    * This medicine is CONTRAINDICATED for use during pregnancy. CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY IF PREGNANT or intend to become pregnant.
    * This medicine may cause dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting. Avoid sudden changes in posture. BE CAREFUL and slowly sit up or stand up.
    * AVOID concurrent use of alcohol or other CNS depressants as it may intensify the drowsiness, dizziness, or lightheadedness effect of this medicine.
    * DO NOT USE POTASSIUM supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium without consulting your doctor.
    * A persistent dry COUGH may occur and usually does not subside unless this medicine is stopped. If it becomes bothersome, consult your doctor.
    * Because of INTERACTIONS, report the use of any other prescription or nonprescription medicines, including natural/herbal remedies, to your doctor.
    * Avoid taking over-the-counter (non-prescription) drugs without asking your doctor or pharmacist.
    * Notify your doctor if signs of INFECTION develops (eg, fever, sore throat, chills, or unusual bruising or bleeding).
    * AVOID SALT and HIGH SODIUM foods to help your blood pressure. Read food labels to check salt or sodium content.
    * The following foods are usually high in SODIUM: soup, snack food(potato chips), canned meat, salad dressing, ham, bacon, hot dogs, and fast food.
    ADVERSE REACTIONS: Stop taking this medicine and get emergency help IMMEDIATELY if you experience:
    Shortness of breath, fast or irregular breathing, fever, joint pain, fast pulse, lightheadedness or fainting, swelling of face, hives, & itching; Severe allergic reaction.
    Stop taking this medicine and notify your doctor AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience:
    Irregular heartbeat; Swelling usually of face or lips; Chest pain; Difficulty swallowing; Difficulty breathing; Swelling of feet or lower legs; Fever; Sore throat.
    Other Common Side Effects: TOP
    Cough; Low blood pressure; Dizziness; Headache; Unusual tiredness or weakness; Nausea; Depression; Itching; Skin rash; Decreased appetite; Stomach discomfort or pain; Anxiety; Constipation; Diarrhea; Dry mouth; Indigestion; Drowsiness; Impotence; Difficulty falling asleep; Joint pain; Muscle cramps; Feeling of general discomfort; Muscle pain; Nervousness; Increased sensitivity to sunlight; Burning pain, tingling, or numbness; Sweating; Loss of consciousness (fainting); Ringing in ears; Change in taste; Vertigo; Vomiting; Muscle weakness.
    Other Common Side Effects:
    If symptoms are mild but do not go away or are bothersome, check with your doctor. IF ANY OF THE ABOVE SIDE EFFECTS IS SEVERE, CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY.
    Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
    Taking this medication may cause the following mineral depletion: TOP
    ZINC.
